Supporting Families Strengthening Recovery

We provide relief for those in recovery and for the families and friends who are supporting them.

The Salik Foundation UK is currently in the process of registering as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). All funds raised will be used exclusively for charitable purposes in line with our mission.

Our Mission

The Salik Foundation UK exists to support individuals in recovery from addiction — and equally, the families and friends who walk that path alongside them. We believe that recovery is not a solo journey; it requires community, compassion, and practical support. Our focus is to raise awareness of addiction in South Asian communities in the UK through education and signposting to existing services that offer recovery support.

In addition to this, we recognises that financial stress is a common trigger for relapse. For those rebuilding their lives — and for the people supporting them — the burden of unpaid bills, missing essentials, or struggling to meet everyday needs can be overwhelming and discouraging. To help relieve these pressures, The Salik Foundation UK provides small, targeted grants to individuals and families in need leaving more time to focus on recovery. We believe that true recovery needs the support not only of family members and friends but entire communities working together to support someone struggling with their addiction as well as the families who walk the often lonely path with them.

Christmas

Financial Relief

We help ease the financial burden of recovery by offering support with debt relief and urgent bills such as rent arrears and utilities. By addressing these core pressures, we aim to create breathing space for individuals and families working toward stability.

Volunteer Charity

Essential Living Support

We provide practical help with everyday essentials — from food vouchers to vital household items like fridges, cookers, and beds. We also assist with urgent repairs depending on the issue. Our goal is to ensure that no one in recovery, or supporting someone through it, is left without the basics they need to live safely and with dignity.

School Kids

Family & Educational Support

We recognise the ripple effects of addiction on families, especially children. We offer help with school equipment and other extracurricular activities that may nurture a child's overall educational development or passions.

Family

Support for Carers & Loved Ones

Family members and friends who support someone in recovery often face unseen financial and emotional pressures. Many cover costs like taxi fares, petrol, and essentials without ever being reimbursed — all while juggling their own responsibilities. We provide small grants to ease these hidden costs, and we also offer wellbeing activities and respite opportunities to honour their commitment, reduce burnout, and show the appreciation they so often go without.

Supporting Those Who Support Those in Recovery

Caring with someone for addiction needs strong family and community support network.

The Salik Foundation was established in loving memory of Abdul Hameed Salik, a devoted local community leader known for his passion for helping those in need. The foundation also honours the memory of loved ones, who courageously struggled with addiction.

Through their personal journey of supporting a loved one battling addiction while managing their own responsibilities, the Salik family came to understand that recovery requires more than professional care—it needs the dedicated support of families and communities.

In the South Asian communities in UK, addiction issues are on the rise but speaking about things like drug, alcohol and gambling addiction is still a cultural taboo. We aim to change this through education, training and awareness campaigns designed to remove the cultural stigma and build community resilience.

The Salik Foundation also recognised a significant and often overlooked challenge: the constant financial strain and emotional stress that builds up while caring for someone in recovery. This pressure affects not only the individual in recovery and their children but also the extended family members who provide ongoing care and support. These carers often receive little recognition or appreciation, despite putting their own lives on hold to help their loved ones through recovery.

Motivated by these realities, the family founded The Salik Foundation to provide targeted financial grants aimed at easing the hardships faced not only by those in recovery but also by the loved ones who stand steadfastly beside them.
